Back In The Seat
May 2nd, 2008 by Stephen Cronin (657 views)Regular readers will have noticed that posts have been pretty sparse over the last couple of months. For those wondering about the reason, we recently moved from China to Australia. This has been a big move for us and has meant that I’ve had almost no time for blogging.
I’ve been able to check for comment spam every couple of days, but haven’t had time for writing posts or replying to comments, let alone keeping up with my regular reads or working on my WordPress plugins.
I didn’t announce our move before it occurred, because both hackers and spammers love an unattended blog. It wasn’t really unattended for long, maybe a week at most, but it looked unattended.
Service will slowly start to resume, but I may not catch up on responding to all the comments and I may need to declare feed bankruptcy. I’m still busy organising things and settling in to my new job, so it will still be slow for the foreseeable future. But at least I’m back in the seat!
Changing Focus
With the change in country, it’s a good time to refocus the blog. I originally intended to write about web development, highlighting things I learnt while working on my other projects. Of course, I got side tracked and wrote about blogging and WordPress and the other projects were abandoned.
In future, you’ll probably see more of the following:
- WordPress (especially plugins): This has emerged as the main theme of the blog. Check the tag cloud in the sidebar to see what I mean!
- Usability and Accessibility: These themes are important in my new job. I may write about them (in general, not about specific issues at work).
- Other Web Development: I haven’t quite given up on writing about this! I’ll focus on issues I encounter while writing WordPress plugins.
- Issues Related To Running Websites: SEO, PageRank, Security etc.
You’ll probably see less on making money online and on general blogging issues, although I may write about these topics occasionally. This may be a little dangerous as these topics have been amongst my most popular. We’ll see if I can stick to the plan!
Final Thoughts
I’ve missed blogging, but sometimes the ‘real world’ demands all your attention. That’s been the case for me recently. I suspect that I won’t have quite as much time as I used to, but I’m still here and I’m raring to go!

Glad to hear you’re settling back in on home turf
Thanks Meg. It’s been a little full on for a couple of months! I really should try and write something for Aussie Bloggers about being back in Australia, but I still have some time issues.
nice to hear that you’re back to the seat and will start post regularly…
Hi Roshan,
Thanks. For some reason, you comment ended up in the Askimet queue, but I fished you out…
Hi Stephen
Very intresting site. write more
Thanks Alex, I’ll try…
That’s great news, Stephen — looking forward to reading more from you!
Thanks Jeff - although I seem to have much less time than I used to and I’m struggling to keep up.
As for content, I’d love my blog to be more like yours, but it’s not likely to change any time soon, despite my best intentions.
That’s a big change, from China to Australia. I’m quite jealous, a I’ve never been to either place. Looking forward to more plugin info though, as I’m trying to do more WordPress blogging these days.
Hi TR, both countries are definitely worth visiting if you get the chance… Very different from each other though…
Holy smokes. That’s a big move. Are you moving just for web jobs etc? I would love the opportunity to be able to move to different areas, countries etc. Unfortunately being a Realtor I don’t have the opportunity to do so.
Best of luck on the move! I look forward to your future posts and plugins.
Thanks Barry. Australia’s home for me. We didn’t move here for a job as such, it was just time to come home.
I had to give up my normal job to come to China in the first place, which was slightly risky move, but I’ve never regretted it.
