I Signed Up For PayPerPost
November 1st, 2007 by Stephen Cronin (1,408 views)When I started blogging five months ago, I hadn’t even considered the possibility of writing sponsored posts. To be honest, I only wanted to write original content and I was against memes, awards, sponsored posts, etc.
I’ve just signed up with payperpost, so obviously my views have changed!
Why? Mainly because of the many blogs I frequent which include sponsored posts. In general these are well done and don’t detract from the site - in fact they often add value to the site. RT at Untwisted Vortex always makes sponsored posts entertaining and informative. They are worth reading even if you don’t need the sponsored service right now. I’m guessing people will remember his posts when they do need that service.
Now, why did I choose PayPerPost? Here are some of the reasons:
- I’ve read many reviews of sponsored post services and PayPerPost always seem to come first.
- Most of the blogger I know that write sponsored posts are using PayPerPost.
- RT from Untwisted Vortex has been an inspiration to me in many ways and he recommends PayPerPost.
PayPerPost also have a reputation for having lots of opportunities and are known for being reliable (in terms of payment), two things which are important to bloggers.
At the end of the day, PayPerPost was really the only contender.
Will I make lots of money through PayPerPost? Who knows! Probably not enough to give up my day job, although it seems there are some bloggers who come close to that.
Personally, all I want is to cover my hosting costs and to occasionally take my family out to dinner. Google Adsense definitely isn’t going to allow that. PayPerPost will.

I had signed up for PayPerPost soon after starting my blog, though my blog got accepted only after 3 months. But I never visited the site again. Did you check out Review Me?
Hi Joyce, personally speaking, I’ve had no problems with PayPerPost. They’ve been great. I’ve taken two opportunities and it’s all gone smoothly.
I have heard of Review Me, but haven’t tried them. I’ve seen some people say they are great, but I also read a couple of reviews saying that they were ’short on opportunities’. I did a fair bit of research before choosing PayPerPost. I’m not saying that I won’t try other services, but for now, PPP meets my needs well.
By the way, I removed the link to Review Me from your comment. I am very sorry about this - I would normally never edit comments (this is the first time), but this post is Sponsored by PPP and I thought it was inappropriate to leave a link to one of their competitors. I’m not quite sure what the ethics are here - it raises an interesting issue I hadn’t thought of before.
I’ve earnt over $2000 from PPP alone in 8 months, which is around $2k more than adsense…..
Good luck to you!
Chris you crazy
Good luck !
Chris, Thanks. I’d be very happy with that sort of money from my blogging!
I signed up for PPP a few months ago and I don’t believe I’ve even logged back in since then mainly for the reasons you stated above. But as you also stated, reviews can also add value to a blog if done correctly.
I may end up going through with it, but I’m really not sure. I believe posting too many reviews, no matter how they are done, would take from ones credibility, but a review every now and then for a little extra cash wouldn’t hurt anything.
Josh, I’m not going to go overboard with the sponsored posts. I agree that too many could take from one’s credibility.
I’m going to try to stick to a rule of having at least 4 non-sponsored posts between each sponsored post. Also I’ll only accept sponsored posts if:
1. they are the sort of topic I’d write about any way
2. I feel they are worthwhile writing about
3. if I’m allowed to disclose that it’s a sponsored post
It may be that there are large gaps between sponsored posts on this site, but having rules like this should allow me to write valuable sponsored posts, while maintaining my credibility. It’s certainly possible: People like Chris and RT have shown me this.
That plan certainly seems sound
I hope you do make a decent amount of extra money with it, you deserve it.
Josh, Congratulations! Your first comment was caught by Askimet, as ever, but your latest comment wasn’t! Maybe you’re off the Askimet hook…
As for making some extra money, I’ve said that’s not the main reason I’m blogging (but it would be nice). PPP is a great start for me, but I’m not unsubscribing from your blog just yet!
You have loads of great tips on other ways to make money and I’ll probably try a few of them out. Keep it up!
Josh, wait, I just noticed you didn’t leave a link so that’s why Askimet is being nice…
I keep telling them you’re not spam, but they won’t listen! I’ve got a lot on, but one of the things on my list is to create a local whitelist for Askimet. I’ll get around to it sometime soon.
Yeah, I don’t know if I’ll ever get off of their list of evil, thanks for despamming me everytime though, every one counts. I use Akismet as well and my own comments normally get sent to my spam filter on my own blog as well lol
Thanks for the compliments. I need to come up with a few “make money doing this” type posts since I haven’t in so long.
Keep up the good work.
I think PPP has the most choices to pull from, but some of those choices are very attractive in my view. That’s why I choose to go with PPP and Sponsored Reviews. You can make good money and provide good content with each, but they compliment each other in a way. With Sponsored Reviews you have to wait and wait and wait sometimes for your bid to be accepted. That’s the one thing that bugs me about that service. But that’s where PPP comes in because you can usually find something of value to write about.
congratz on being a fucking sellout
Bill, do your parents know you’re on the computer?
I’m still not keen on sponsored posting. To me, blogs are for personal viewpoints and original ideas, and stuff that matters to the blogger. Being paid to spruik for an advertiser is not really in the spirit of it to my mind.
Writing sponsored posts/paid reviews is not selling out any more than any other form of advertising. Full disclosure such as “This is a sponsored post” in the post is enough to inform readers that this is an ad and not something 100 percent original thought.
Do you advertise nothing at all, ever? If you don’t advertise something, even another blog free of charge, you’re going to be a lonely blogger with few readers.
Mark, thanks for the input. The waiting would be frustrating, but I may check it out in future (though, as I say above, for the moment PPP is great for me).
Bill, RT has more than adequately defended me with his comment. I’ll add that the concept of selling out is relative. For me, it would be selling out if I didn’t disclose that a post was sponsored. For my blog (and my goals for it), sponsored posts aren’t selling out. But everyone is different and it all depends on your situation. However, if you’re against sponsored posts, it would be much better to explain why - see Ian’s comment for example.
RT and Josh, thanks for chipping in. I’ve been away checking out the Forbidden City, which ironically, was full of people. On a related issue, large chunks of the Forbidden City are ‘made possible’ by American Express. That might be going a bit too far!
Ian, as I say to Bill above, everyone is entitled to their opinion - so thanks for sharing yours (that’s what comments are for and one of the great things about blogs!). Actually, I understand your view point. For me there is a line I won’t cross. I’m not going to write positive things about an advertiser’s service / product unless I’ve done some research on it and I believe that what I’m writing is justified. I know some of my readers will not pay much attention to sponsored posts, but some will, and I don’t want to send them down the wrong path.
No probs. Actually I provided that link for your use.
I have signed up for PPP, Review me and Sponsored review, but never used any of them. Now I think its time to start making some sponsored posts.
Joyce, thanks - I appreciate your intent. Good luck with the sponsored posts, which service you decide to use.
good luck with ppp Stephen… I really like the idea of having atleast 4 regular posts in between paid ones… should keep the blog nice and clean.. I’ll be thinking about that too.. I signed up with SponsoredReviews also and did reserve some posts, but they take forever to approve, which should actually work out with ppp, since theirs have to be completed within a few hours from reserving, which I didn’t know…
Hi Pearl. Yes, I think it’s important not to dilute your original content too much. I think with PPP you get 6 hours (but don’t quote me). It’s good, although I like to really research my topic before I post - no problem so far but I can see that some time down the track I’ll want more time than I have. Good luck with PPP (in future)!

RT is always cool and inspiring
I have only had a couple of forrays with pay per post and found the system great! I dont want to put too may sponsored posts on my blog but id i can earn $50 or even $100 per month from it then its definately worth it!

Hi Euro, Thanks for stopping by. I totally understand where you’re coming from…
There are so many sponsored review sites out there and of the ones that I have visited I think PPP is the best. Even before my blog got accepted I was making money from them through referrals. That’s got to be a good thing.
Have you seen post up and about all over the place about how Google is dropping the PR of sites that have PPP on them? What do you think about that?
Gerri, Thanks for stopping by. I haven’t tried the other sponsored post services yet, but I’ve found that most people agree the PPP is the best.
It does seem that Google are targeting sites that use (or even talk about) PPP. I know of some really decent sites that have gone from PR3 or 4 to PR0. Of course I think it sucks - especially as Google hasn’t told them exactly why they’ve lost the PR. I guess I’m in the firing line here, now that I’m writing sponsored posts.
I think that people are best off forgetting about PR and concentrating on traffic, readers, etc, but I’ll admit that I don’t want to lose my PR! I guess the bottom line is how can you make money? If sponsored posts are the best way (as they seem to be for a lot of people), then you’re probably best to grit your teeth and get on with them.
Nice site by the way. I went to your site via Terence Chang’s site. Very interesting interview with Terence. Now I’m wondering what I can sell on the Internet!
Losing PR would eventually be a problem though, ‘coz you get lousy ‘opportunities’ to write reviews about on PPP, nothing that pays beyond $5 so keeping good PR is important until advertisers start looking at some other means of determining site’s ‘quality’.. if you will.. although I don’t think high PR and site’s quality are directly proportional to each other..
Pearl, I think that’s one of the reasons Google is doing it: They don’t like their system being used as a means of qualification for advertising services which are effectively in opposition to Adsense. I can understand them not liking it - but the action they’re taking at present is turning a LOT of people against them.
As it happens, PayPerPost will soon be introducing a new mechanism to decide which posts you qualify for. They were going to roll it out with IZEA’s new service SocialSpark in January, but apparantly they will fast track it into PPP due to the recent PR carnage (a lot of posties dropping to 0).
This will be great for most posties - but maybe not so great for me. I have PR4 on the back of my WordPress plugins, but my traffic isn’t that high, so I may qualify for less in the new system…
I totally agree with you
I just got accepted too and I am so thrilled!
Bocabit, Thanks for stopping by.
Vienna, Congratulations - I hope it makes a lot of money for you!
I just signed up for PPP 3 days ago mainly to the fact that I’ve read so many mixed opinions regarding PPP and didn’t know what to think. What I think now is, if I can make a few bucks no matter what… why not give it a shot… :p
Hi DomeinRegistratie,
As it’s turned out, I’ve only done a couple of sponsored posts, but they earned me more money than I’ve got from Adsense. Having said that, I’m looking into what I can do to improve the performance of Adsense. Anyway, good luck!
That looks great! I’m not really looking to make any serious cash from blogging but I have several websites about cheetahs and lions, and if I can nblog just to cover the hosting and domain registration costs, that sounds perfect.
Chris you luckyman!!!
Ukraine with you …
